Launch of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, 2 November

The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet is bringing together preeminent philanthropic, government, donor, MDB, DFI, and private sector partners to build a unique global platform to accelerate an equitable energy transition in over 50 developing and emerging economies. The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet will launch during the COP26 World Leaders Summit (WLS) on 2 November at the Innovation Event. Alliance leadership will announce the platform, its specific funding, and a Call for Proposals, which will incorporate a mechanism to ensure countries submitting energy access and energy transition proposals receive technical advice throughout the process to maximize viability and implementation success.  Heads of state and national climate and energy transition leadership will be invited to join in-person and virtually, for those unable to travel to Glasgow.

GEF: Net-Zero Pathways – Moving from Aspirations to Action, 2 November

How can countries reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050? How do we move from global- to local-level net-zero targets, and what are the challenges and opportunities that this process comes along with?  This event will explore these questions and present examples of ongoing experiences with science and policy experts and high-level country representatives. Energy Day, 4 November

On 4 November, the COP26 Energy Day will bring together governments, businesses, investors and organisations from across the world to demonstrate that the shift to clean power is inevitable and rapidly accelerating, that an end to unabated coal power is now within reach, and that people and their livelihoods are at the heart of this transition.

The Energy Day Opening Event will be followed by an event hosted by the Energy Transition Council, featuring two panel sessions where senior figures from governments and international organisations will announce and discuss new measures to scale up clean power more quickly, shift away from coal and ensure access to affordable, sustainable energy for all.

On this critical day for SDG7, our CEO and SRSG Damilola Ogunbiyi will give remarks at the Energy Day opening, closing as well as the Energy Transition Council event.

The Energy Transition Council (ETC) is one of the key initiatives of the UK COP26 Presidency for promoting and supporting ambitious clean energy transitions in developing countries. Our CEO is the council Co-Chair and we are directly involved in supporting the council’s secretariat and overall strategy. Find out more.
