SEforALL to Advance Global South Leadership at COP30
How much of the world’s climate commitments will truly deliver for those who need it most? That question will guide discussions as global leaders, negotiators and stakeholders meet in Belém, Brazil, for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) from 10 to 21 November.
After historic financial commitments at COP29 in Baku, the focus now shifts to implementation, where nations are expected to turn commitments into concrete action across energy, climate and development.
SEforALL will use this moment to advocate for Just and Equitable Energy Transitions (JEETs) in the Global South. For the fifth consecutive year, SEforALL will collaborate with partners to spotlight Global South leadership — this time across shared stages rather than its own pavilion. Through these engagements, SEforALL will highlight progress on clean cooking, energy efficiency, sustainable cooling, equity, and finance reform.
At COP30, SEforALL will call for urgent action to scale climate finance for developing countries, targeting at least USD 1.3 trillion in annual investments by 2035. Global energy investments are expected to surpass USD 3.3 trillion in 2025, yet only a small share reaches emerging economies in the Global South - where nearly a billion people still lack reliable access to energy. SEforALL will advocate for lowering the cost of capital, expanding concessional finance and mobilizing greater private investment, to meet the energy, climate and development needs of the Global South.
A high-level delegation from SEforALL will engage in a series of strategic discussions with partners including Afreximbank, the COP30 Presidency, Forward 7, the Global Alliance for People and Planet, the International Council for Sustainable Energy, the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Mission Efficiency, the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), and the World Food Programme (WFP).
Among the highlights, SEforALL will contribute to global efforts to double energy efficiency by 2030, scale up green hydrogen in developing markets and expand access to clean cooking in schools.
