Clean energy is key to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by mid-century

We help countries design and execute energy transitions that deliver on energy access goals as part of a net-zero emissions pathway. This means establishing plans for clean energy development bolstered by energy efficiency solutions, then ensuring countries have the financial and technical assistance needed to realize these plans.

Climate finance can be a catalyst for clean energy development in the Global South: contributing to overall global emissions reductions but also the creation of new social and economic opportunities.

Through the Energy Compacts, countries and stakeholders are translating climate ambition into concrete, voluntary commitments that support clean energy development, energy efficiency, and just transition pathways. With over 160 Compacts submitted globally, this initiative is accelerating progress toward net-zero emissions by mid-century—particularly in the Global South, where finance, policy alignment, and partnerships are critical. By fostering collaboration and unlocking targeted support through the Energy Compact Action Network, these commitments are helping bridge the gap between climate goals and implementation, enabling countries to drive down emissions while expanding access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy.
