BRICS Nations Outline Path to Strengthen Cooperation on Energy-Efficient Appliances
The discussion paper, "Strengthening BRICS Cooperation on Energy Efficiency and Appliances," was prepared by SEforALL under the guidance of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India. The paper was presented during a side event on "Raising Electrical Appliance Standards" held on 24 June 2026, alongside the BRICS Senior Officials and BRICS Energy Ministerial Meetings. Jointly convened by BEE and SEforALL, the side event brought together leading industry associations, utilities, manufacturers, financiers and technical experts to explore opportunities for enhanced BRICS cooperation on appliance energy efficiency. Stakeholders highlighted the significant potential for BRICS nations to leverage their combined manufacturing scale, market influence and policy experience to advance the global energy transition and strengthen South-South collaboration. The paper outlines key opportunities for cooperation, including standards and labeling, compliance and market surveillance, high-efficiency cooling, industrial equipment efficiency, AI-enabled appliances, financing mechanisms and consumer awareness. It also proposes establishing a dedicated BRICS Workstream on Energy-Efficient Appliances under the BRICS Energy Cooperation Roadmap 2025–2030.
