Sustainable Energy for All at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

News

June 20, 2018: Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) will host three events in support of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. The HLPF is taking place from Monday, 9 July, to Wednesday, 18 July 2018 at the UN headquarters in New York City, including the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from Monday, 16 July, to Wednesday, 18 July 2018.

This year’s HLPF theme is "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies” and will include a formal review of progress on Sustainable Development Goal 7 – ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

All SEforALL events will take place on Monday 16 July 2018 in NYC. Highlights of SEforALL activities and announcements are listed below, with more information available on our website at SEforALL.org/HLPF.

LAUNCH OF GLOBAL REPORT FROM COOLING FOR ALL

SEforALL, in partnership with the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Program (K-CEP), will convene a high-level dynamic discussion to launch “Chilling Prospects,” a new report produced by SEforALL and a global panel of experts from the Cooling for All initiative on the emerging challenge of sustainable cooling solutions. Leading experts from across the public and private sectors will discuss the thermal economy and the challenge of securing energy efficient, low-GWP, cooling in a warming world. The report explores how access to cooling will directly determine people's life chances, health outcomes, and productivity as well as the need to think holistically about cooling solutions. Event will be held in the United Nations Headquarters on July 16, 11:00 - 12:30..

SDG7 – LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND.

This high-level dialogue, in partnership with friends of SEforALL and leaders in the energy transition, will explore evidence of progress in achieving SDG7, as highlighted in the SDG7 Tracking report launched at the Sustainable Energy for All Forum in Lisbon in May 2018, from the perspective of our commitment to leave no one behind. Access to affordable, reliable and clean energy unlocks access to health services and education services, advances gender equality and helps start and grow successful businesses.

Panelists will speak of their experience of success, why it should be a priority and how it transforms lives. They will examine how policy matters, how partnerships and getting finance flowing drives results and provide examples of what works and what can be replicated to achieve the speed and scale missing in current efforts to manage the energy transition in most countries.

Event will be held in the United Nations Headquarters on July 16, 15:00 - 16:30.

SEVEN FOR (SDG)7

Sustainable Energy for All and Ashden will hold an evening celebration of leadership - Seven for 7 – to recognize seven global leaders who are driving action on SDG7.

Following a keynote address by the United Nations Deputy Secretary General Amina J Mohammed, the event will feature success stories of seven leaders from policy, business, and finance, as well as exciting energy innovators from the community of Ashden Award winners. Their stories will also demonstrate momentum at the nexus of access to energy and the other SDGs, particularly those under review this year, including water (SDG6), sustainable cities (SDG11), consumption (SDG12), and ecosystems (SDG15).

Event will be hosted by Bloomberg LP on July 16, 18:00 - 21:00 and will be by invitation only.
