NADI/VIENNA, 2 April 2014: Addressing participants at the Pacific Launch of the UN Decade for Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), Susan McDade, Director and Country Action Team Leader, noted that the first year of the UN Decade for SEforALL and the International Year of Small Island Developing States is a welcomed coincidence. Calling on the Pacific community to forge an even closer relationship with SEforALL so they can jointly confront the challenges the region faces, McDade encouraged the region to ensure their support for global energy targets on energy access, efficiency and renewable energy is heard in the on-going discussions on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Post-2015 Development Agenda. “The Decade should help bind together the national, regional and global energy debates- and as such form an energy agenda for the next crucial decades to come,” she underscored.
