News
SEforALL will be contributing to the UN’s Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD) in Addis Ababa with a high-level side-event on Financing Sustainable Energy for All, backed up by a detailed expert report on how to scale up investment in the sector. Speakers at the event, to be held from 4.00 to 6.00 pm on Monday, 13 July, are expected to include UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, World Bank President Jim Kim, Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Ethiopia’s Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Alemayehu Tegenu, and Icelandic foreign minister Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson. The event will see the release of a report by the SEforALL Advisory Board’s Finance Committee on Scaling Up Finance for Sustainable Energy Investments, which identifies concrete ways to increase crucial private-sector investment by a potential $120 billion a year through innovative financing structures. The report also recommends ways to improve the pipeline of suitable projects, particularly in developing countries. The event, which will include discussion on concrete examples of potential projects, will be held in Ballroom II of the Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa. Full details of speakers can be found here. The FfD conference will run from 13-16 July in Addis Ababa, gathering senior leaders from government, business, international organisations and NGOs. Governments will negotiate and agreed on measures aimed at supporting the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda.   Read the Secretary-General’s remarks at the event here
