UNIDO, TERI and IIP launch SEforALL's Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator

News
VIENNA, 10 April 2015 - A new collaboration aimed at doubling the pace of energy efficiency gains in industries around the world is officially launched as part of the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) initiative bringing together governments, NGOs and businesses. The SEforALL Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator is supported by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Institute for Industrial Productivity (IIP) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator will secure public commitments by governments, industrial corporations and associations, utilities, and financial institutions to drive the adoption of Energy Management Systems (EnMS ) in Industry. At the same time it will create a collaborative network with NGOs and other international organizations to provide industry with tools, resources and best practice information. The Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator Platform, is the sixth in a growing series of sectoral initiatives (on lighting, appliances, buildings, district energy systems, vehicle fuel efficiency and industry) under SEforALL's Accelerator Platform, which aims to help double the global rate of improvement of overall energy efficiency by 2030. Widespread adoption of energy efficiency measures in industry, could reduce industrial energy use by over 25%. That potential is significant: it represents 3.92 Gt CO2 - an 8% reduction in global energy use and a 12.4% reduction in global CO2 emissions.
