The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is one of the United Nation’s five regional commissions whose mission is to support Arab Member States in fostering socio-economic cooperation, enhancing the region’s capacity to overcome its development challenges and advancing the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through an integrated lens. With energy being the golden thread that connects all the SDGs, achieving sustainable-energy development has become ever more critical. To this end, ESCWA focuses on providing economic and social policies, capacity building, technical advice and a platform for regional cooperation which is essential in promoting and speeding up the transition to more sustainable energy systems in the Arab region.
