The mandate of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is to promote inclusive and sustainable development in support of accelerating the economic diversification and structural transformation of Africa. 

Established by ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) in 1958 as one of the UN's 5 regional commissions, UNECA's mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered, inclusive and transformed Africa. Its overall objective is to promote inclusive and sustainable development in support of accelerating the economic diversification and structural transformation of Africa, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. 

The think tank has 9 programmatic clusters; macroeconomics and governance; regional integration and trade; private development and finance; data and statistics; technology, climate change and natural resource management; poverty, inequality and social policy; economic development planning; sub regional activities for development; and gender equality and the empowerment of women, all being delivered under its vision: Ideas for a Prosperous Africa.
