María Erla Marelsdóttir

Ms. María Erla Marelsdóttir is the Climate Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland and served as Iceland's ambassador to Germany from 2019-2024, making her the first woman to hold this position. With extensive experience in renewable energy and geothermal utilization, she previously worked as the Director General for Development Cooperation, focusing on international partnerships in climate action. Hon. Marelsdóttir holds a law degree from the University of Iceland and a Master of European Laws from Stockholm University.
